Just a few kilometres out of the city, in Esgueira, Portugal, you will find a small paradise, the Aveiro walkways. A great place for a walk or to cycle, in the middle of nature and out of the busiest places. It is wonderful for a break away from whatever you are doing, get your mind out of something, relax and contemplate.
Furthermore, if you are looking for a magic moment in this spot, we have some advice for you. The place is just gorgeous at any time of day, but it can be rather more magical when all the pathway is all surrounded by water. And for that, you need to be sure that the tide is high when you visit. Believe us, the views are simply incredible, as you can see by our photos.
Extension Aveiro walkways
When the walkways opened last year you had a little bit more than 7km to walk or to cycle until Vilarinho, in Cacia. Now you can go all the way to Estarreja, in an extension of 23 km, side by side the lagoon. It is a magnificent way to appreciate the lagoon and the beauties of nature.
However, we do not advise the circa 2km connecting the wharf of Esgueira (where the wooden walkways start) to São Roque Channels, right in the city of Aveiro. If you just had an amazing time connecting with nature, you will experience the relaxation fading away while the concrete jungle kicks in. As during these two kilometres you need to walk partly on the side of the highway. And, at least for me, that does not fit in with such majestic views, especially if that is the way to finish an epic visit.
